DE - Race Craft

NASA Texas offers a program to HPDE Participants called RACE CRAFT. This is still DE, but we are now providing you with more. The focus of the program is to prepare participants to learn more about racing and provide them with a solid foundation that can be a stepping stone if they so choose to get involved in the racing aspect of the sport. Do not let the name fool you.....Racing in this group is still strictly prohibited and the black flag rule remains in effect for off-track excursions, spins and driving deemed to be reckless.

The Race Craft Program for DE participants will provide additional guidance and education through a structured - well-rounded program that includes the following:

  • Assessments to help determine participants' knowledge and skill level.
  • Well prepared curriculum presented in classroom sessions: Terminology; driving skill basics, car control and knowing your limits, awareness; Safety, basic car Set-up, improving your times without adding horse power; flagging and communications; Club Code Regulations (CCR); and more
  • Quality track time with different sessions focusing on various skill sets. Sessions will incorporate lead-and-follow instruction and mentor ride along
  • Track-side observation and timing of other individuals at the track-side provides participants with a valuable learning experience
  • Mentor feedback and guidance
  • Tracking progress using student logs / notebooks

DE - Competition Licensing Program
For those ready to take the next step in obtaining a competition license. The foundation of the program is the Race Craft Program with a few additions that prepare a participant to actually race. Your mentor, instructor, the Event Director and Regional Director will assess your experience, knowledge, skills and progress as you participate in the program to determine if you are ready to receive a provisional license. Please insure that you follow the instructions on the NASA Provisional License Application (a medical examination by a doctor is required) if you want to apply for your license on the weekend that you have registered for this program. Please make a copy of the CCR and the NASA Provisional License Application. Participants in this program might earn the opportunity to participate in one of the race groups on Sunday provided they have received the proper approvals, have a safety compliant racecar and have completed the necessary application.
